Boudoir After Baby?

I gave birth to my first child five months ago. It was the most astonishing moment I have ever experienced. I was overcome with this new love that I had never thought possible. As I started to get the feel for motherhood over the first few weeks I also started noticing the large effects that carrying a child for 9 months has on your body. It will never be the same as it was before.

I have stretch marks that go from my belly button to the top of my thighs. My feet are bigger. My breasts have been through the ringer getting bigger and then gigantic and now a lot smaller than I started out with. I have this weird acne and mood swings that my Dr. says are from the hormones that should eventually (hopefully) balance out. It has been so hard for me to feel beautiful again. I have my days where I know that what my boyfriend see’s in me is truly what I am and then I have days where it is hard to know why he ever had interest in me at all.

With these struggles I have been trying to figure out what I wanted to do for him for Valentine’s day, not just a gift but something more, something that he will love. I decided to give him me. I wanted to get some boudoir photos taken just for him. Over the last couple of days I have tried on sexy outfit after outfit, corsets teddy’s, you name it. I cried. I didn’t feel sexy. For some reason in my head I felt that my significant other would laugh at a photo of me wearing any of this stuff. I had the session set for Wednesday. I called and put it off for one more day so that I could try to wrap my head around being ‘sexy’.

I chose a tasteful bra and panty combo with a nice matching black robe. I did my hair in pin curls paired with a red rose and matching red heels. Even as I changed into my outfit in the bathroom before the shoot I began to tremble a bit, afraid to show my stomach and stretch marks.  I looked at myself in the mirror and took a deep breath, ‘I can do this’ and stepped out into the next room. At first as I started to adjust myself for posing for the camera I was ridged and nervous, but as the shoot went on, the more comfortable I became and I started to feel sexy. It was invigorating.

I wondered if how I felt was going to show in the photos of me. As the shoot came to an end I thought about my loving man and hoped that there would be at least one good picture for him. I picked up my beautiful daughter and held her tight. As Barbara started uploading the photos to her computer I saw myself in a way that I haven’t seen myself in quite some time. It was almost breathtaking.

Who was that woman in those photos? It was me. The me that I have always been, I just forgot about it with the rush of new motherhood. I am a mother, but before I was a mother I was a woman. A woman that was funny and fun and sexy at times. I can’t let myself forget that part of me.

Becoming a mommy is hard work, but every part of it can be beautiful. You just have to let it be. Taking these photos today helped me to realize all of this. I am beautiful, sexy and fun and just because I am a mom now doesn’t mean I have to leave those parts of me in the past. I can balance motherhood and being beautiful at the same time!

DIY Boudoir Photos

OK so if you are like Mrs. Tog you really wanted to get your special someone some hot photos this Valentines day but then the calendar got ahead of you and now you are thinking maybe I could snap a couple myself! It can be tricky but it can be done. I took some today and overall they came out pretty good. I included one below and the rest of the poses are from clients. Definitely not what I would have gotten if I managed my time better and made an appointment with a photog. It is a goal I have for 2014 to get really nice boudoir photos done for myself not even for my man. I want remember how good I look after all the hard work I have put this body through.  I hope that all you lovely ladies get inspired by this tutorial to give it a try and maybe after seeing how good you can look DIY style I really do hope you all consider getting a pro to do them for you at least once in your life!

Camera: Digital cameras are pretty much the normal these days, which is great because you can take as many pictures as you want and upload them straight to the computer. The one thing that is a must have is that your camera is capable of being set to a self timer. The longer the better most give 10 seconds at max. I personally use a wireless remote most of the time but last week when my battery was dead I was still able to get some really good selfies with the timer.

White sheets: White sheets create great contrast against your skin tone and your can use them by hanging them from the wall and running them across the floor or you can hang them off your headboard and across the bed, or just cover your normal bed set with them for a super easy set up.

What to wear: Honestly wear what makes you feel sexy. My best shot was me wearing a pair of cotton panties with a cute print. I highly recommend heels to add that extra sexy touch.

Makeup & Hair: Go all out if you can. Get out the curling iron if you are going for a soft and sexy look or grab the flat iron if you are looking for an edgier feel.

It’s time to take those photos!

Give yourself at least an hour for a successful DIY photo shoot because it takes a little bit to figure out lighting, focus, and posing.

Background: Keep the sheets bunchy, don’t try to iron them perfectly or you’ll be fighting a never ending battle.

Setting up the camera: If you have a tripod use it, if not try resting the camera on side table, a chair a stack of books you name it. For an overhead shot I discovered that if your camera has a strap hang it from your ceiling fan… me it works, just make sure it’s secure :)

Lighting: There are two types of lighting, natural and artificial light. Natural light is hands down the best light to use , so open all your windows and let in the sunshine just avoid eye contact with the neighbors for a few days! If you don’t have enough natural light then use your ceiling light and lamps for additional light. I strongly recommend using lights in the room before using the built in flash on your camera. A built in flash straight at you is incredibly harsh and will highlight flaws.

Focusing the shot: Most cameras have a focus lock which is when you push the shutter button down half way you can hear it focus. For your photos I recommend placing an object like a book, stuffed animal, etc. in the shot, in the location where you will be in the picture. Then set your self timer, focus on your prop…..then jump in the pic and throw the prop out. If you don’t place a prop in the shot for the focus you will most likely end up with unclear photos. This can feel like it should be declared an Olympic sport when you do it over and over again but trust me it’s worth running back and forth!

Posing: It can take a while to figure out what your best angles are. But honestly most women look great being shot lying down on their back with their bodies diagonally across the bed looking towards the camera. I have included a photo of this pose.

Other easy poses are

Sitting on the edge of your bed reaching down to slip on your heel or adjust your stocking

Facing the camera lying on your belly but with your body slightly angled away.

Always be aware of your hands! I ruined a few of my shots having mine looking really awkward.

After you have your images I really do recommend trying to convert a few to a soft black and white I have found I may not love an image in color for one reason or another when it comes to boudoir but converting to black and white can add a softness and make me fall in love with it. Check out for a decent online editing tool to take your photos to the next level.

Moom Review

Hi guys Tog here. I’m going to share my experience with Moom. It is an organic sugar based hair removing system similar to waxing but said to be easier.

If I’m being real the main thing I wax most often is my ever so feminine sideburns. Yes that’s rite Mrs. Tog has side burns! I blame my Greek/Irish ancestry but what can a pale girl with dark hair do?

In the kit you will find a glass jar of the sugaring part of the product. It’s great that the jar is glass more eco friendly and you are able to microwave it and use it straight out of the jar. No need for a separate warmer. It also comes with reusable cloth strips both small and large sizes as well as a few large and small applicators.

I found prepping everything to get ready super easy. 15-20 seconds in the microwave, give it a good stir and you are ready to go. The hardest part of prep for me was letting my hair grow the 1/4-1/2 inch needed for the product to be effective. I wanted to do my armpits legs, bikini line and side burns. I started with the old sideburns and honestly the product went on smooth and wasn’t anymore painful that regular waxing or wax strips you can use at home. It worked incredibly well! My burns were gone, my skin super smooth and I only got like 2 bumps on my skin in the days following.

Here’s where moom let me down. I prepped for my legs and pits. I have incredibly dark hair that is again if I’m being honest, super coarse. If I want to keep smooth legs I really would have to shave every single day. Moom just didn’t cut it. Each stroke only removed maybe a 1/4 of the hair. It was at the same level of discomfort as waxing in the same areas but not nearly as effective as seeing a professional for it.

I was definitely disappointed but I do plan to continue to purchase moom for my lady beard. It’s super easy to use and clean up, which was a huge plus. So if you happen to be one of the lucky ones with relatively soft body hair I think moom would be a perfect all around hair removal product. Mrs. Tog here is still going to be in disposable city for now.

If you would like to give moom a try you can purchase it on amazon for what I feel is a pretty good price for the number of uses $12.59.

Rainbow Rice

Hey hey Tog here. I’m gearing up to create Little Darlings February Sensory bin and create a post about it but first things first RAINBOW RICE!

It is super simple with just a few items most of us already have lying around.

You will need Rice, Ziploc bags, Food Coloring and Alcohol Based Hand Sanitizer.

IMG_7996 IMG_7999

I knew i was going to be making a lot of rice since it was my first large batch for my huge sensory bin. I went to costco and got a 25lb bag of mandalay long grain rice for $10. This was hands down the best price. But once you have it you can reuse the rice over and over for other bins. you can choose to only color some or do single colors and keep them seperate in ziploc bags. This makes for easy change outs of sensory bin themes each month.

Step 1. put rice in a seal-able bag (my preference) or even a large mixing bowl

step 2. for about 3/4 full ziploc freezer size bag Put in 8-9 drops of food coloring. you can always add more if you want the color to be darker.

step 3. ad 4-5 pumps of hand sanitizer into the bag.

step 4. close the bag and shake it like crazy. really get the rice moved all around and the color spread out evenly.

step 5. open the bag and set somewhere the kids can’t reach it and let the rice dry. the alcohol both helps the color to stay on the rice and not on hands and also helps it dry quickly.

Step 6. Use in your sensory bins!

Pretty easy and makes the bins just a little more special.
